SIMITIAN LEGISLATION PROMOTES SAFETY OF PUBLIC, ENVIRONMENT ON CRUISE SHIPS
WHAT: State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) will hold a press conference to discuss his SB 1582 which ensures that every cruise ship entering and exiting a California port has a qualified Ocean Ranger on board who reports to the California Department of Justice. This individual will be a trained peace officer who is also licensed as a marine engineer.
SB 1582 protects the public on board cruise ships, enhances homeland security and ensures compliance with California law that prohibits offshore dumping of cruise ship waste.
