Press Release - April 24, 2008

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

International Cruise Victims (ICV) hail the passage of

an Amendment to the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act measuring crime on cruise ships.

Sammamish, WA - International Cruise Victims (ICV) hails the passage this morning of the Matsui/Poe/Maloney/Shays Amendment to the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act. That amendment, requiring the Coast Guard to maintain statistics of missing persons and crimes on cruise ships and to make that information available to the public, provides a first step in addressing the problem of crime on cruise ships.

Kendall Carver, President of ICV indicated the following, With Legislation now moving forward in California plus the action this morning in the U. S. House of Representatives, the tide is turning IN OUR FAVOR as the result of the efforts of our MANY members.  It shows what a group of volunteers with a passion for change can do to change the cruise line industry.

ICV also wants to thank those Congressional members in Washington and California for taking up our cause to improve the safety and accountability of the cruise line industry. Without their efforts, these major steps to improve safety would not happen.
